Check out Kate’s Buffalo Oral History Project, Spilling Grain!
As many of you know, I have been a journalist for over 20 years. In 2019 I returned to Buffalo for around six months to do some investigative reporting. During that time, I embarked on a personal project to learn about Buffalo’s amazing grain elevators by interviewing people who worked in and around them. Since then, in my spare time, I’ve created this audio oral history series featuring NPR-style versions of those talks (yep, there’s even music).
This is living Buffalo history featuring captivating tales — sometimes fun, sometimes tragic — from grain scoopers and brothers who worked in the flour mills to a professor who teaches about grain elevator architecture to a musician who spent a month living inside a grain elevator.
I call the project Spilling Grain – give a listen here.
